5 Year Old Twins Leave the Playground to Run in the LA BIG 5k to Support Rare Cancer

The Searle Twins Have Raised Almost $10,000 Proving Size Doesn’t Matter.

For four years, the Searle twins, Sage and Savannah, have been participating in the LA BIG 5k. To date the cute duo have raised almost $10,000, proving that size doesn’t matter, heart does.  The race has become quite the family tradition. Each year the twins fly from their home in Northern California to Los Angeles to participate. Six years ago, the girls lost their grandfather, Vince Acquisto, to bile duct cancer.  In response, their grandma created The Bili Project Foundation with Vince’s business partner, Joy Stephenson-Laws. “Each year, the money the girls raise from the LA BIG 5k move us closer and closer to finding possible treatment options … and ultimately a cure!” said mom, Melissa Searle.

These girls were born to make a positive difference in this world. They are an inspiration and reminder that some of the marathons biggest runners aren’t that big at all. What matters is believing you can make a difference.  Together, they are taking on this challenge in honor of all those brave individuals fighting hepatobiliary cancers, which are among the hardest to detect and treat. The girls will be racing in their 4th LA BIG 5k at the LA Marathon on March 17, 2018.  To become a Biliever and help them chase down these diseases visit www.thebiliprojectfoundation.org.

About The Bili Project Foundation

Hepatobiliary Cancers, the 6th leading cause of cancer death within the United States and the 3rd leading cause of cancer death worldwide, have somehow managed to keep a low profile as compared to other Cancers until recently.  The Bili Project Foundation plans to bring this quick and silent killer into the spotlight and aims to reduce the INCIDENCE and IMPROVE THE OUTCOMES by promoting research to identify diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets in this complex and heterogeneous group of diseases. These cancers are huge cause for concern as they are notoriously difficult to diagnose, resistant to standard therapies, and under-funded.  This type of Cancer is on the rise in the U.S., with increasing numbers of cases projected in coming years. For these reasons, The Bili Project Foundation was created to fill this area of urgent unmet medical need.
