100K ‘Kathy Barboza Young Investigator Award’ Presented to UCSF
BILIeving is truly everything! As you know, The Bili Project Foundation is dedicated exclusively to funding research for early detection and curative treatments for bile duct, liver and gallbladder (hepatobiliary) cancers. Yesterday, August 29th marked a very important and very special day for Bili as we awarded Dr. Huat Lim of UCSF Medical Centerwith the “Kathy Barboza Young Investigator Award.” This $100,000 grant will allow Dr. Lim and his team dedicated time to develop a novel approach for researching therapeutic agents to target a specific genetic mutation (IDH) of bile duct cancer.
The award, which will be given annually, was named this year after Kathy Barboza, a patient who had been diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma and who wanted to support The Bili Project Foundation’s research efforts specifically in the area of genetic mutations and therapeutic agents. Bili worked diligently with Kathy for the past year on developing and funding this grant. She was involved in every step of the way and played a key role in our fundraising efforts. We are thrilled to make this award in her honor and are confident that the research it will fund will help us in our efforts to better assess and stop this silent killer. Thank you to all of our BILIevers and supporters who helped us reach our 2019 $100k goal! #BILIevingIsEverything.
