WHERE THE MONEY GOES
$25 – Provides general support for Hepatobiliary Cancer Research Efforts; when pooled together, we can support a broad range of research
$50 – Cost of collecting, processing, and banking blood samples for future biomarker and/or genomic research on causes and molecular pathways of Hepatobiliary cancers, which are needed for discovery of new biomarkers, early detection, prognosis, or molecular profiling of the cancer
$100 – Cost of processing fresh tumor samples in culture medium and sending samples for development of tumor xenografts or cell lines to study new drugs and targets in the laboratory
$250 – Research support for oncology fellow to study Cholangiocarcinoma and other Hepatobiliary cancers with Cholangiocarcinoma Collaborative Physicians
$300 – Cost of collecting, processing, and banking fresh tumor samples for research (roughly, $250‐500 for 1 patient’s tumor, depending on complexity)
$400 – Support for the dedicated research coordinator to facilitate patient consent process, review of patients’ charts, contact patients, and perform data entry to study outcomes associated with specific risk factors and/or tumor genomic findings
$500 – Support for Hepatobiliary cancer research physician to dedicate his/her time to work on a broad range of research projects related to these cancers, including biomarker studies and clinical trials of novel drugs
$20,000 - Cost to fund a clinical trial for 1 patient. Cost includes drugs, diagnostic tests and monitoring for progress.
$60,000 – Annually Maintaining the UCSF Hepatobiliary Tissue Tumor Bank, which will allow UCSF to continue to build the inventory of the bank and maintain the currently banked specimens by supporting supplies, freezer space, and technician time
$75,000 - $100,000 – The cost of conducting new research studies on Hepatobiliary cancer specimens to include clinical trials for Hepatobiliary Cancer Patients.
$200,000 – Cost to fund a clinical trial for 10 patients. Cost includes drugs, diagnostic tests and monitoring for progress.
